Few studies have examined the effect on the height of small for gestational age (SGA) children born to mothers with hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (HDP) at the corrected age of 3 years. We compared the proportion of children whose height did not catch up at the corrected age of 3 years between SGA children born to mothers with HDP (HDP group) and those born to mothers without HDP (non-HDP group). We included 103 children who were admitted to our NICU between 23 weeks 0 days and 32 weeks 6 days of gestation between 2011 and 2021, and whose heights at the corrected age of 3 years were recorded. The proportion of children whose height Z-scores were less than -2.0 at the corrected age of 3 years was 23.3% in the HDP group and 30.2% in the non-HDP group. The proportion of children whose height Z-scores were less than -2.5 at the corrected age of 3 years was 13.3% in the HDP group and 20.9% in the non- HDP group. This study showed no significant difference in the proportion of children who did not catch up in height between the HDP group and the non-HDP group. In conclusion, it is unclear from the results of this study whether the mother’s HDP status may be a risk for short stature in SGA children.
